I'm Back

It's been three weeks of rest, walking, enjoying shows and movies, and reading. I'm rested, I'm energised and I'm inspired by all that I'm jumping into after having time to re-organise my thinking, formulate some new plans and create some new partnerships.

If I ever wondered why the discipline of Sabbath was so important in the Scriptures, I'm completely convinced again that this kind of rest is not just important but absolutely crucial for physical, mental and spiritual health. This vacation was a time to change routine and do some different things from my normal working life. But, more than that, it was a time to take stock, to slow down and reflect on my life and work in the light of God's call on my life. The result is that I'm far more present to what I'm doing now that I'm back at work. I'm better focused, I have a clearer sense of what I'm called to accomplish, and I better able to balance the various demands on my time.

I have no doubt that things will get out of balance again - probably far sooner than I'd like. I will get tired again, and I will lose focus. This is the way of things. But, I have learned that I need only remember one thing: To take some time out to Sabbath again - to rest, reflect and restore - and I'll find my way back into the centre of God's call, and to that still place inside of me where that call is most clearly heard.

Over the next few days I'll be sharing some of the experiences I enjoyed with my family during this time, and some of the reflections that arose. Stay tuned!
